John Ken Nuzzo
Japanese-Italian/American tenor John Ken Nuzzo was born in Tokyo, Japan and has made a worldwide name for himself in the international opera scene, best known for his lyrical grace.
He has appeared at the Anchorage Opera as Rodolfo in La Boheme and has appeared at the Pittsburgh Opera as Nemorino in L’Elisir d’Amore. He also appeared at the Metropolitan Opera as Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi and the Song Seller in Il Tabarro in a new production of Il Trittico, which was broadcast in HD in the movie theaters around the world. Other past opera engagements have included Jaquino in Fidelio, Sellem in The Rake’s Progress and Brighella in Ariadne auf Naxos (which was filmed for television) at the Metropolitan Opera, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Cassio in Otello and Fenton in Falstaff with the Vienna State Opera, Tony in West Side Story at the Volksoper Wien, and Nathanael in The Tale of Hoffmann at the Salzburg Festival.
Soon after his opera debut in 2000 with the Vienna State Opera, he was awarded the 2000/2001 Eberhard Waechter Medal for his performance as Novice in Billy Budd. This artistic award is given each year to 2 singers from the Austrian opera houses. He has also been a winner of the prestigious Idemitsu Music Award in Japan.
In concert, he has been heard in the Berlioz Requiem with the NHK Symphony under the baton of Maestro Charles Dutoit, a concert version of Beethoven’s Fidelio with Maestro James Levine and the Munich Philharmonic, and Beethoven’s Symphony #9 with the Tokyo Symphony among others.
He received his vocal training at Chapman University under Patrick Goeser.
